Winter has arrived and it’s the time of year that my ‘glass half full stomach’ turns to the thought of delicious slow cooked delights, darker beers and comforting red wines (and perhaps a warming single malt after everyone’s gone to bed).

There’s plenty happening in liquor through these chilly months; with Ed continuing to find hidden gems from around the country. While I'll be keeping an ear to the ground to ensure we keep on finding unique and interesting new release beers as well as my favourite “food friendly” wines to make those shanks, ragouts and roasts taste that little bit better.

Now for the booze to keep a look out for at friendly winter prices...

Beer

Napoleone Porter: Tis the season to drink darker beer and this English style porter is a great option being more session-able than a heavy stout but rich with caramel, coffee and chocolate notes.

Wine

Yering station ‘village’ Pinot Noir: I’ve picked up a bulk order of the excellent 2015 vintage and can now offer you good people an excellent price ($21.99) until it’s ALL GONE! An earthy, robust fruit style pinot that is made to enjoy with any meat imaginable!

Beach Road Shiraz: A little/big gem discovered on one of Ed’s recent “fact finding missions” he visited 10 wineries in one day on his way though longhorn creek on the way to McLaren Vale and this winery was one to catch his eye.  Good upfront fruit, balanced and well structured. This is a luscious wine to enjoy with a quality cape grim steak or curled up in front of the fire.
